What is Oscar Senior?

Oscar Senior is a very easy to use application designed for seniors to communicate with their family and friends. It also provides entertainment features and senior can get remote help from a family member or friend.

Where can I get Oscar Senior?

Oscar Senior application can be downloaded on Google Play Store or Apple App Store.

Why is Oscar Senior so special?

Todays communication tools might be too complex for senior people. Oscar Senior was developed to provide easy and safe communication. The senior does not need to have any computer experience. Senior´s account will be created and managed by younger family member ("Admin").

Who is Oscar Senior suitable for?

For seniors and non tech savvy people who want to stay in touch with their family and friends.

Do I need any special hardware?

No, the choice of device is yours. The Oscar Senior application is designed to be used on an Android tablet or iPad by the senior user. All other users can use the Oscar Senior application on their own smartphone or tablet.

Does Oscar Senior include a tablet?

No, Oscar Senior is a downloadable application. Like this, seniors can choose tablet (screen size and spec) that fits their needs or they can get a used one from a family member.

Can I use the tablet I already have at home?

Yes, you can, there is no need to buy a new device. Please check the version of the operating system (see below).

What are the minimum Android tablet and iPad requirements?

Oscar Senior is compatible with iOS version 9.0 and up and Android version 4.1 and up.

Is Wi-Fi connection or data plan needed in order to use the Oscar Senior application?

Yes, it is necessary to have a Wi-Fi connection (i.e. wireless Internet) if you want to use the Oscar Senior application. We strongly recommend to use Wi-Fi. The other option is to have a device with 4G/LTE connectivity.

What features does Oscar Senior include?

Oscar Senior offers much more than just a communication tool. We have divided features into three groups: Communication: video calls, sending/receiving photos and messages, reminders. Entertainment: games, Facebook, Internet. Information: news, weather, Wikipedia, translator, maps, and more.

In what languages is the Oscar Senior application available?

Oscar Senior is available in English, Czech, Slovak and Dutch language. More languages will be available during 2017.

Can Oscar Senior be used outside?

As long as there is a connection to the internet via Wifi or 4G, Oscar Senior can be used anywhere.

Does the senior user need to have an email address to install and use the Oscar Senior application?

No, the senior doesn't need to have the e-mail address to sign up for and use Oscar Senior. (A family member will create an account for the Senior User).

Is Oscar Senior safe to use?

Oscar Senior is designed for seniors and it runs in a special interface which is an absolutely safe environment that protects them from scams. Senior can not accidentally exit the app, there are no pop-up windows or alert messages.

How does the remote help and settings work?

Remote help can be provided to the senior by the admin - (a family member or friend, who created the account for the senior). It can be done from the Oscar Senior app installed on the admin´s smartphone. Admin can add or remove contacts and apps from the senior´s tablet according to senior user´s proficiency and interest. Moreover, during a videocall, admin can remotely manage the tablet and help the senior.

Can multiple people help remotely to one Senior User?

No, there is just one user (admin), who can help the Senior User remotely.

Is it possible to help remotely to more than one senior?

Yes, it is possible that the admin helps more than one senior.

Do senior´s friends and family members need the Oscar Senior application?

Yes, senior´s friends and family will have to download the Oscar Senior application in order to communicate with the senior via Oscar Senior app.

Is it possible to add additional applications (third-party apps) to Oscar Senior?

With Business plan, it is possible to integrate selected apps after previous agreement. For Family plan, we made a careful selection of the most used applications and integrated them into the Oscar Senior application, other applications can not be added. If you would like to add some specific application that you believe could be widely used by many seniors, contact us at support@oscarsenior.com.

How to log out from the Oscar Senior app (on your smartphone)?

To log out from the Oscar Senior app on your smartphone, you need to click the "Edit" button under your name and then tap "Log out" icon in the upper right corner and confirm that you want to log out.

How to log out from the Oscar Senior app (on senior´s tablet)?

To log out from the Oscar Senior app on senior´s tablet please tap and hold the date (in the upper part of the app) for few seconds. This will take you to Preferences, where you need to click on the senior´s name, then in User Details section, tap "log out" icon in the upper right corner and confirm that you want to log out.

How to change a home app (launcher) on senior´s tablet (Android only)?

To change the home app (launcher), go to Oscar Senior app on senior´s tablet, tap and hold the date for few seconds. This will take you to Preferences, where you can change the home app.

How to add/remove contacts and apps for the senior?

In the Oscar Senior app on your smartphone, click the "Settings button" next to the senior´s name. This will take you to "Remote management" and here you can add or remove apps and contacts (by clicking on the Plus button next to contacts or apps). Please note that only admin of the senior is allowed to do this.

How to remotely manage senior´s tablet?

Within the Oscar Senior app on your smartphone, you´ll see a "Settings button" next to the name of a senior you are administrating. Clicking this button will take you to "Remote management" where you see a preview of senior´s tablet and you can add or remove contacts and apps, as well as set preferences for certain apps.

What is "Instant call" and how to use it?

For older people, even picking up an incoming call can be difficult (especially for those with reduced mobility, disabilities and for dementia patients.) With instant call feature you are able to start and also answer the call - this means your elderly loved one gets connected with you without touching the tablet. To do so on your smartphone, go to remote management (by tapping the Settings button next to your senior´s name). Once you have the remote management opened on your smartphone, click on yourself (your contact) and then it will display the Instant call option. Please note that only admin of the senior is allowed to do this.

Is it possible to change a News source for the senior?

Yes, it is possible to change the news source from your smartphone app - press the settings button next to the senior´s name, then click the News app. There you can type in the URL of a news source you want to show on the senior´s tablet. Last step is to confirm it by clicking on "Set" button at the bottom right corner.

How do I remove contacts from my contact list (not the senior´s contact list)?

Swipe left on the contact you want to remove from your contact list and confirm it in the next step.

How can user delete a photo?

To delete a photo from the Oscar Senior gallery, hold the selected photo for few seconds, until a dialogue offering the option to delete photo pops up.

How do I set up a reminder for the senior remotely?

You can set up reminder remotely from your smartphone app. Press the settings button next to the senior´s name, then open the Reminder app. Then click "Plus" button in the bottom right corner, enter reminder details and click "Save". It will appear immediatelly on the senior´s tablet in the Reminder app and the alarm wil go off on selected date and time.

Is there any installation service?

Oscar Senior is easy to install, however we recommend a family member to help setting up the application for the senior user. Because we do not sell hardware devices we do not provide an installation service.

Are there regular updates?

Oscar Senior app will be kept up to date with the latest version. Please check device settings.

Will there be any new features?

New features will be released on a frequent bases.


Membership

How much does Oscar Senior cost?

There is 30 days free trial. Afterwards, Oscar Senior costs €9.99/year (billed annually) or €0.99/month (billed monthly).

How to cancel the service?

Your account will be deactivated automatically if you do not pay subscription after 30 days trial. If you pay for a subscription, you can cancel it anytime from within the application or at https://login.oscarsenior.com.

What payment methods can I use?

We accept PayPal payments, and most credit and debit cards, including Visa, Mastercard, Maestro, Discover.

Do all family members have to pay monthly/yearly subscription?

Yes, every family member/friend needs to join Oscar Senior and pay $9.99/year (or $0.99/month), except the senior who uses the Oscar Senior app for free.
